EGCU, Portland Museum of Art, & Portland Trails Bring Art to the Trails

A new collaboration between Evergreen Credit Union, Portland Museum of Art, and Portland Trails is transforming the Evergreen Woods Trail into an installation art experience through the Portland Museum of Art’s “Art Outside and On the Trail” initiative.

Evergreen Credit Union and 2 of their Community Partners, Portland Museum of Art and Portland Trails, are installing 5 reproductions of paintings permanently displayed in the Portland Museum of Art.These will be on the Evergreen Woods’ Improved Access Trail, located behind Portland’s Evergreen Cemetery on Stevens Ave.

“These installations along the Evergreen Woods Trail invite people to see the outdoors in a new way and deepen the connection between art and the natural world, right here in our own backyard,” said Lindsay Conrad, Director of Development at Portland Trails.

The Portland Museum of Art’s “Art Outside and On the Trail” program places engaging and accessible art installations in public spaces. Adding the Evergreen Woods Trail to the initiative brings together 3 organizations deeply rooted in community, creativity, and sustainability.

"Art has the power to connect people and places,” said Ashleigh McKown, Head of Philanthropy at the Portland Museum of Art. “Through our partnership with Portland Trails and Evergreen Credit Union, we're excited to help make art more accessible by bringing our collection beyond the museum and out into Maine’s trails and open spaces.”

Evergreen Credit Union’s Community Partnership program encourages connections between its 20 Partners, using their networks and community interests to work towards a common goal. “The collaboration between Evergreen Credit Union, Portland Trails, and the Portland Museum of Art to bring ‘Art Outside and On the Trail’ is testimony of our community coming together and bettering together,” said Jeanna Coates, Community Partnership Manager at Evergreen. “Being a Portland native, the Portland Trails system and Portland Museum of Art have been great resources for recreation and fun throughout my life. I'm so lucky to now work with both organizations!”

The 5 installed painting reproductions will be viewable through October 2025 on the Evergreen Woods Trail in Portland. This installation was approved by the City of Portland in a public hearing on June 10, 2025. Evergreen Credit Union, the Portland Museum of Art, and Portland Trails are encouraging trail users to kindly interact with the installation by taking a picture and tagging @portlandmuseum, @portlandmetrails, and @evergreen_credit_union on Instagram and Facebook.
