Chief of Operations Wins Outstanding Credit Union Employee Award
As seen on Maine Credit Union Weekly Update

Each year, the Maine Credit Union League looks forward to celebrating the remarkable individuals whose passion, leadership, and dedication strengthen the credit union movement through its annual awards program. These honorees embody the cooperative spirit that defines credit unions, making a lasting impact on their organizations, their communities, and the people they serve. Among this year’s distinguished award recipients is Tim Verreault of Evergreen CU, whose extraordinary leadership and unwavering commitment to others have earned him recognition as the 2026 Jeannette G. Morin Outstanding Employee.

Some leaders rely on titles to command authority. Others lead through example, earning trust and respect through their actions every day. Verreault, Chief Operating Officer at Evergreen CU, belongs firmly in the latter category.

While his title reflects responsibility for overseeing operations, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring organizational efficiency, those who know Verreault understand that his impact extends far beyond traditional executive leadership. To Evergreen’s employees, members, and community partners, he is the steady hand, trusted mentor, problem-solver, and champion who consistently puts people first.

Known for his quick wit, trademark dad jokes, and approachable demeanor, Verreault has built a reputation as the kind of leader people naturally gravitate toward. Whether he is helping shape the credit union’s long-term strategy or spreading ice melt outside a branch before employees arrive during a snowstorm, he approaches every task with the same level of care and commitment.

That people-first mindset is evident throughout Evergreen’s culture. Each Thanksgiving, Verreault personally coordinates a holiday meal for employees across all six Evergreen locations, ensuring staff members can enjoy a warm meal during the holiday season. One Christmas, he transformed into a Polar Express conductor to host a movie night for employees and their families. These gestures may seem small, but they reflect a larger philosophy that has become central to Evergreen’s success: people matter.

“Tim is a natural-born leader,” says Branch Manager Chelsey Cargen. “He encourages growth, empowerment, and motivates others to become the best version of themselves. He’s approachable, empathetic, and has a way of making everyone comfortable. Watching him in action is the highlight of our day. He makes quick decisions that bring everything together in ways we didn’t think of. We often look at each other and say, ‘Why didn’t we think of that?’ He is kindhearted, and we are thankful every day to have him here.”

Verreault’s influence reaches every corner of the organization. He oversees several of Evergreen’s most complex and demanding areas, including Member Experience, Facilities, Cannabis Operations, Commercial Lending, and Consumer Lending. Despite these significant responsibilities, he remains deeply connected to the people around him.

Colleagues describe him as calm under pressure, solutions-oriented, and relentlessly supportive. He empowers employees to innovate, encourages professional growth, and creates an environment where individuals feel valued and heard. His leadership style is built not on authority, but on trust.

That trust has been instrumental in guiding Evergreen through major initiatives and periods of growth. Throughout his career, Verreault has led transformative projects, including the renovation of Evergreen’s Broadway branch, the construction of the credit union’s environmentally friendly Windham location, and the development of its newest branch in Scarborough. In 2016, he served as interim CEO, ensuring seamless continuity for both employees and members during a leadership transition.

Yet those accomplishments tell only part of the story.

Evergreen CU staff excitedly gather to recognize Verreault’s leadership and excellence.

His colleagues often say that no task is beneath him. He notices the details others overlook—a crooked picture frame, a fallen tree branch in the parking lot, a thermostat that needs adjusting. More importantly, he notices people. When employees returned from maternity leave, Verreault helped create private lactation spaces within branches and ensured the mothers themselves selected the furnishings and décor, creating environments that reflected both comfort and dignity.

His willingness to show up for others has earned him a special place in the lives of many employees and their families. Affectionately known by some as “Uncle Tim,” he is the person colleagues call when they need support, guidance, or simply someone willing to listen.

Beyond Evergreen, Verreault has dedicated himself to advancing the broader credit union movement. A Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE), he regularly participates in the Governmental Affairs Conference and Hike the Hill, advocating for policies that strengthen credit unions and the communities they serve. He has contributed his expertise through service on multiple Synergent committees, Tricorp’s Board of Directors, the Alex Ferguson Chapter of Credit Unions, and most recently during Tricorp’s CEO search committee.

His contributions have helped shape not only Evergreen’s success but also the future of the credit union movement throughout Maine and beyond.

Evergreen CU’s consistent recognition as one of the Best Places to Work in Maine is no accident. It is the result of a culture built on respect, support, accountability, and care—values Verreault exemplifies every day.

Perhaps what makes his leadership so impactful is that he never seeks recognition for it. He leads with humility, integrity, and authenticity. He sets high standards not by demanding excellence from others, but by demonstrating it himself. The example he sets inspires those around him to become better leaders, better teammates, and better people.

The ripple effect of that leadership extends far beyond Evergreen’s walls. Through the employees he mentors, the culture he helps cultivate, and the values he models, his influence reaches families, neighborhoods, and communities throughout Maine.

For Verreault, Evergreen CU is more than a workplace—it is a responsibility, a mission, and a community he genuinely cares about. His dedication to employees, members, and the credit union philosophy embodies the very best of the movement.

For his exceptional leadership, unwavering service, and profound impact on those around him, Verreault is a truly deserving recipient of the Jeannette G. Morin Outstanding Employee Award.
