Watch for Phone Spoofing Scams

Credit Union members are receiving phone calls from scammers claiming to represent the fraud departments of Maine financial institutions. In many examples, the caller ID or phone number appear to originate from members’ respective credit unions. Copying the caller ID or phone number of an institution is known as “spoofing.”
Scammers make up stories and find reasons to make members believe that their accounts have been compromised. Then, scammers claim that members need to provide sensitive information to assist in recovering their assets.
Remember: Evergreen CU will never call you and ask for sensitive information like your account details, PIN, or Social Security number.
If something doesn’t feel right:
Pause. Don’t share any information.
Hang up. End the call.
Call back. Contact our credit union directly using a trusted phone number.
A familiar number on your screen doesn’t always mean a familiar caller is on the other end.
