Although Evergreen will text you about any transactions we may find suspicious, sometimes fraudsters send fake texts about transactions that don't exist. These fraudulent texts can be a gateway into card fraud if you don't see the red flags quickly enough.
If you receive a text alert stating there was a large transaction made on your debit card, ask yourself:
Is this text coming from a full phone number with an area code? If so, this may be fraudulent. Debit card fraud alert texts from Evergreen Credit Union will always come from a 5-digit shortcode, not a 10-digit phone number.
Does the text have spelling or grammar errors? Many scam texts can contain awkward phrasing, typos, or poor grammar. Keep in mind that Evergreen's text alerts always have the last 4 digits of the purchasing debit card.
Does the text message contain urgency or threats? Messages like, "Verify now" or "Your account will be suspended" are designed to panic you into acting quickly. Evergreen's debit card text alerts will never contain urgent or threatening language.
