CU Youth Month 2024: Making Money

April is Credit Union Youth Month. What makes financial literacy crucial for children of all ages?

Learning about money helps you make smart choices with your cash, teaches you good habits, and shows you why every dollar counts.

More financial knowledge now can help you become independent with your money and get ready for when you’re older and have bills to pay.

The more you know about money, the better you can figure out things like how to pay for college, manage your spending, and pick a job you love.

Making money means we have more choices in life. Let's dive into all the different ways kids can earn money!

Offer to do chores

Chores for neighbors, such as mowing lawns, pulling weeds, cleaning the house, organizing cluttered rooms, or running errands. Charge a small fee for your services.

Babysitting

If you're responsible and enjoy spending time with younger kids, offer babysitting services to parents in your community.

Petsitting and dog walking

If you love animals, pet sitting or dog walking may be right up your alley. Many pet owners need someone to watch their furry friends while they're away and are more than willing to pay for it!

Ever consider a tutoring gig?

If you excel in a particular subject at school, offer tutoring services to students who may need extra help.

Get crafty

If you're creative, make crafts or artwork to sell at local craft fairs, farmers' markets, or online. Start with your friends and family then expand to online stores, like Etsy!

With a little creativity and hard work, you can start earning money in no time! Now that we’ve given you some ideas of how to make money, check out our next edition about the importance of saving your hard-earned cash. Stay tuned!

Remember to always get permission from your parents or guardians before starting any money-making ventures and prioritize safety when interacting with strangers or handling money.
